Best gifts for new parents : Sleep Edition

When it comes to buying gifts for new parents, anything that might help their new bundle of joy sleep will always be welcome. Below are a few products, across a range of prices, that any new parent would be pleased to receive.

Black Out Blind

The first thing on the list has to be a black out blind. There are lots of different products on the market, but the Tommie Tippee Sleeptime Portable Baby Travel Blackout Blind is great.

It has long lasting suction cups which attach to your window and mean this blind is fully portable. Parents can use this in their own room (if they don't already have a blackout blind) and then it can be transferred into their little ones room at 6 months - or whenever they decide the time is right. It can also be packed up for family trips away and provide a dark sleeping environment wherever the family go.

Sleeping bags

Sleeping bags are a must for babies and toddlers. They provide warmth and a safe sleeping environment. It's worth taking into consideration the time of the year the little one is born as there are a number of different togs on offer. For summer babies, think about a 0.2 tog or maybe a 1 tog and then for winter babies, look at purchasing a 2.5 tog. Sleepbags will always come with a guide as to which tog is best suited for the temperature, and these guidelines should be adhered to.

Regarding brands, we really like the ergoPouch range. They have swaddle bags for non rollers and sleeping bags for slightly older babies and toddlers. I like this brand because they are made with organic cotton which is soft on newborn skin and they have a bell shaped design which has been approved by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as being 'hip healthy'. They also have the most beautiful designs and colours too.

Room Thermometer

Having an accurate room thermometer is a vital for helping to keep babies and toddlers safe at night. The Lullaby Trust state that parents should aim to keep room temperature to between 16-20°C. The room temperature will help parents to know how to appropriately dress their little ones for bed and which tog sleeping bag to choose.

We like the Tommie Tippee GroEgg Thermometer as it clearly shows the temperature digitally and through the colour top.

Baby Bath

There is nothing like a nice warm bath to help a little one feel snuggly and ready for sleep. The Skip Hop Moby 3 Stage Baby Bath Tub has a mesh sling to fully support newborns. The sling can then be adjusted to provide back support and later removed when a baby is able to sit unaided.

This is a wonderful bath and makes bath time really enjoyable as the sling helps parents to wash their baby and reduce the risk of the little one slipping.

SnuzPod

A sleep gift guide wouldn't be complete without a bed. We love the SnuzPod Bedside Crib. This crib allows for baby to stay close to mum at night time.

The Crib is fully adjustable to allow the little one to be at the same height as their parent and attaches to most bedframes. It is designed to help regulate baby's temperature with its ComfortAir Breathable System and comes with a firm, flat mattress.
